Cerebral function monitor "Encephalan-CFM"

cfm 1Dynamics of changes in brain activity, which cannot be traced during short-term EEG study, is clearly represented during continuous EEG monitoring in the form of amplitude-integrated EEG trends (aEEG), compressed spectrum and other CNS quantitative parameters, calculated by the signals received via few (3 to 5) EEG derivations.

Cerebral function monitor "Encephalan-CFM" is designed to solve the problem of risk assessment of brain damage associated with a lack of oxygen (asphyxia), low cerebral perfusion, and with paroxysmal brain activity, which cause sensory, motor and cognitive dysfunctions of different severity particularly in newborns in intensive care units and is widely used in developed countries.

Cerebral function monitor provides continuous dynamic analysis of amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) for detection of perinatal asphyxia and epileptiform activity in neonatology, and for neurophysiological control in ischemic strokes and unconscious post-comatose states.

cfm 2aEEG patterns detected with cerebral functions monitoring have a characteristic appearance, corresponding to different normal and pathological states of the brain, which allows assessing the severity of hypoxic-ischemic disorders, identifying seizure activity, monitoring the dynamics of the patient state at drugs administration and predicting neurological outcome.

The sales package of Cerebral function monitor "Encephalan-CFM" includes autonomous patient transceiver-recorder ABP-5, doctor’s PC, "Encephalan-CFM" Software (detailed description), wireless pulse oximeter module, EEG electrodes and other accessories.

Monitor "Encephalan-CFM" can be delivered in mobile and portable variants. All equipment and the notebook from the portable variant can be placed into the notebook carry bag. Computer, monitor to display information, printer to document monitoring results, videomonitoring kit, and components of CFM monitor (patient transceiver-recorder, additional devices, sensors, gel, accessories) form the mobile variant and are placed on the comfortable equipment trolley.

Main functional capabilities of "Encephalan-CFM" software

Forming amplitude-integrated EEG trends (aEEG)

aEEG is a special algorithm for processing and visualization of EEG meant for continuous monitoring the dynamics of the EEG amplitude.

The following is also displayed on aEEG trends:

  • A graph of aEEG suppression manifestation is lower than minimal threshold of aEEG amplitude.
  • Classification of aEEG patterns.

The following is calculated and displayed below aEEG trend:

  • aEEG events panel – "burst", "suppression" and "remains".
  • A graph of aEEG bursts dynamics.
  • A graph of aEEG suppression dynamics.

Channels configuration library allows using

  • Simplified 1-channel variant (for cerebral functions monitoring in newborns).
  • 2-channel bipolar montages with an common sagittal electrode or separated by hemispheres EEG derivations and combinations of these montages with ECG, EMG and EOG signals.
  • 4-channel monopolar montages, which allow conducting reference reconstruction.

Additional types of analysis and visualization of amplitude-integrated EEG trends (aEEG)

  • Trends of density spectral array for operative evaluation of spectral content dynamics and EEG power.
  • 3D presentation of compressed spectra.
  • Trends of spectral power indices by range (SPIR).

    EEG analysis and service options

    Functional capabilities of "Encephalan-EEGR" software:

    • Visual analysis of current EEG changes during monitoring.
    • Electrode impedance and cross-electrode potential control and record during electrodes attachment, real EEG record and for subsequent analysis.
    • Manual and automatic markers setting during EEG record and analysis. Markers are displayed in a special window for quick switch to corresponding record fragment.
    • Data printing. Print manager allows easily preparing and printing analysis results of cerebral functions monitoring, results in tabular and graphical form, and conclusions.
    • Storage of studies in the "Cardfile" database with the ability to export and import studies, as well as data backup to external media.

Simultaneous cerebral functions monitoring in 4 patients

    cfm 9

Option of simultaneous cerebral functions monitoring in several patients in ICU.

Data on each patient are displayed in a specified window. Any window may be displayed in full-screen mode for detailed analysis. Option of videomonitoring synchronized with brain electric activity monitoring.

Information of patient transceiver-recorder (up to 4 pcs) is transmitted via wireless channels to central station.

Optional capabilities of video- and neuromonitoring

Videomonitoring synchronized with recorded data (videomonitoring kit and software "Encephalan-Video" are required) allows detecting movement and seizure activity that is important for differential diagnosis of the CNS functional state and detection of epileptiform activity.

Optional "Encephalan-NM" Software allows observing trends of such diagnostically significant parameters as median and weighted average frequency, spectral edge frequency, effective bandwidth, asymmetry index and others, synchronously with CFM trends.

Additional wireless modules and sensors expand a set of trends with such parameters as heart rate, breathing frequency and depth, muscle tense, movement activity, etc.
